We all know the first part of this aphorism but how many of us are familiar with the second part?
It completely changes the complexion of the message, away from a cheap Nike-style “just do it” - which incidentally is the central tenet of consumerism - towards a much more cautious approach to decision-making.
If a small step can take you on a long journey, you need to think hard about every new step that you choose to take.
Because as one of my early characters Fangio said: “Mate, a journey of a thousand Li takes a thousand f...ing Li.”
